My world became a bit less isolated today. I am writing this on board Delta Airlines at 37,000 feet on a trip returning from Salt Lake City. This airplane has a wi-fi wireless Internet connection on board and I have been enjoying it.
I fly a lot and I typically either sleep or read or simply suffer from boredom. On this trip, I have exchanged emails with a newsletter reader in Ireland, sent a message to my daughter, checked on the newsletter's web site, and read the latest news. Not bad! Best of all, I am using a tiny netbook computer that costs $99 (I'll be writing about that in a few days.) I could put TWO of these computers onto a single airline seat tray.
Technology continues to get easier and cheaper while allowing us to communicate with friends and family.
Within the past year or so, several airlines have installed wi-fi equipment on a limited number of aircraft. However, this week’s trip is the first time I have been on a wi-fi equipped plane and I must say that I have enjoyed the experience.
