Paperless (formerly known as ReceiptWallet) allows you to scan in and manage your documents and receipts. When you scan in each receipt or document, you enter a few pieces of information about it and then you can quickly and easily locate your receipts and documents. All the digitized images are stored as PDF files and are added to Paperless' database. You can later sort and/or extract whatever documents you wish. You can export individual documents to a genealogy program. Paperless also works well at tax time if you have scanned all your needed receipts, W-2 forms, 1099 forms, and other required tax documents.
With Paperless, you can view the receipts right on the screen, print them, email them, or save them as PDFs. In addition to the search built into Paperless, you can organize your receipts and documents into collections. These collections can contain whatever you want and even better than that is the ability to create smart collections that automatically create collections based on whatever criteria you like. You can create as many collections as you wish.
You can scan your receipts, warranty cards, deposit slips and other paperwork and Paperless will automatically recognize and categorize these documents. The built-in search functionality even lets you find and organize receipts and documents into Smart Collections.
Are you finding that most owner's manuals these days come as PDFs and are either on the manufacturer's website or on a CD? Can you ever locate the information when you need it? Simply add these manuals to a Paperless library and they're accessible with a few quick keystrokes.
Paperless also makes a great backup plan. In case of a disaster, your paper copies could be destroyed. Scanning all the documents into Paperless in advance and storing those images online (off site) provides an excellent backup plan. Any or all of the documents can later be retrieved and viewed on-screen or even printed, if necessary.
Paperless 1.3 requires Mac OS X 10.5 or later (Leopard, and Snow Leopard) and any TWAIN-compliant scanner. However, the program is optimized for use with Fujitsu ScanSnap S510M, S1500M, S300M, or S1300 scanners. The program sells for $49.95 although a free demo copy can be downloaded and used for a while to see if it meets your needs.
