The first release of Traces of the Past has been released and is now available on the App Store in iTunes. The producing company says this is just the first release of several that will bring some really great functionality to your iPhone or iPod Touch.
The following announcement was written by Truscape Solutions, Inc.:
Find traces of your ancestors by exploring hundreds of millions of freely available historical records from countries all over the world.
For many people, records of their ancestors connect them to their past. An effort is underway by several archives to digitize these records and to make them available to the public over the internet. With Traces, you can now access these records right on your iPhone and iPod touch.
With Traces, you can search for historical records of your ancestors by name, event, place, date range, and family members. Browse through exact, close, and partial matches and then examine the details of the records you find. Many records allow you to view a photo of the original document right on your iPhone or iPod touch. Read with your own eyes the cause of death on your Great Grandfather’s death certificate or discover the details of your Grandmother’s marriage on her State’s marriage records.
As you find records of your ancestors, Traces allows you to share those records with family and friends. You can also add them to your personal Folder for later viewing or additional research.
Many records provide information about your ancestor’s family members. Traces will take what information is known about their father, mother, spouse, or children and allow you to perform a quick search for more information about each family member.
FamilySearch is the first archive of historical records being made available through Traces. FamilySearch has over 280 collections from over 45 countries with new records been added every month. These collections consist of census, vital, land, military, and church records. Access is provided free of charge with no registration required. In addition to these collections, FamilySearch hosts several collections from other archives such as Footnote.com, Findmypast.com, EllisIsland.org, and more. While the records from these archives can be freely searched and viewed, some of them may require registration and/or fees to view the original images of the records.
Traces is a FamilySearch Certified application and is approved for access to the FamilySearch index of historical records.
Traces of the Past sells for $3.99. For more information, go to http://www.tracesofthepast.net/?page_id=13
