Genealogists should be recording changes in our lives and lifestyles. Here's one for the books: The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) has stopped publishing pictures of missing children on milk cartons. Instead, the Center now obtains better results by publishing pictures on Facebook. In most cases, the pages are published by the missing child's relatives or friends, not by the NCMEC.
The NCMEC has taken 3,464 active cases of missing children since Jan. 1, 1990. "One of six children is located because someone recognizes them in a photograph," said John Shehan of the NCMEC in Virginia. "But with more than 500 million active users on Facebook, that statistic is greatly enhanced when someone creates a page for a missing child."
