If you have a family photo or most anything else that you want to crop or improve the image quality, you can choose from a variety of photo editing programs. Most of them require money and also require installation in your computer. Fotoflexer is a pleasant exception: it is free and it is online. Fotoflexer works in a web browser so it is available at any time with no installation required.
The FotoFlexer web site describes itself as the "world's most advanced online digital photo editor." I'm not so sure about that superlative word: most. However, I will say it's a good one.
FotoFlexer doesn't require you to create an account to edit pictures, although you can do so to gain extra capabilities. You can add a photo from your computer by clicking the large "Upload Photo" button, importing photos from Facebook, Flickr, MySpace, Picasa, Phanfare, PhotoBucket, Smugmug, or Yahoo Search, or by inserting a URL.
You can read a full review by Jeffrey L. Wilson in the PCmag web site at http://goo.gl/DgXk
Wilson ends his review by writing, "When it comes to free image editors, Picnik is more well-rounded on the lower end of the spectrum, while the Editors' Choice award-winning GIMP 2.6.1 does an excellent job on the higher end. Fotoflexer gets a bit lost in the middle." While I would agree, I will point out that the more powerful GIMP software is difficult to learn and use. It also requires installation. For the casual user who only needs to edit an occasional photo, I'd suggest FotoFlexer at http://fotoflexer.com/
Even if you don't have a need for an online photo editing service right now, you might add this URL to your list of bookmarks for future reference.
