John Swinney, Cabinet Secretary for Finance and Sustainable Growth, has announced the merger the General Register Office for Scotland (www.gro-scotland.gov.uk) and the National Archives of Scotland (www.nas.gov.uk) into one organization will happen soon. The existing record keeping functions of NAS and the registration and statistical functions of GROS will continue. Staff of both bodies are part of the Scottish Government main scheme and there will be no change to their terms and conditions as a result of the merger.
The approval was just granted and plans are still being formulated. Dates and other details will be announced in the near future.
My thanks to Wendy Archer for letting me know of this story.
