The following announcement was written by Origins.net:
This month, Origins.net is pleased to put online over 300 years of Oxfordshire Wills available exclusively on the National Wills Index.
This dataset indexes all the surviving probate records of the bishop and archdeacon of Oxford for the period 1733 to 1857, and of the Oxfordshire Peculiars for 1547-1856 containing 21,071 surnames (21560 Individual Will records). All the records indexed here are now housed in Oxfordshire Record Office, and are currently being digitised. The digitised images will be available within the National Wills Index in early 2011, but meantime hard copies may be ordered online on Origins.net.
Wills can be the best source of family relationship information, holding great potential value in furthering your research. Information in wills goes beyond immediate family, and both expected and unexpected information may turn up, usually initiating further research. Wills offer such wonderful possibilities. Oxfordshire Wills Index is well worth checking for anyone who lived in or adjacent to the county.
