The following announcement was written by the Massachusetts Society of Mayflower Descendants:
The Massachusetts Society of Mayflower Descendants is pleased to announce the appointment of Caleb Johnson as editor of our periodical, The Mayflower Descendant. Johnson succeeds retiring editor Scott Andrew Bartley, who has edited the magazine for the past eleven years.
Caleb Johnson is well known for his work on the English origins and ancestry of the Mayflower passengers, which has been published on his website, www.mayflowerhistory.com, and in books he has authored such as Here Shall I Die Ashore (a biography of Mayflower passenger Stephen Hopkins), The Mayflower and Her Passengers, William Bradford’s Of Plymouth Plantation (a new edited edition), and The Complete Works of the Mayflower Pilgrims. He has also written articles that have appeared in scholarly genealogy magazines such as The American Genealogist, American Ancestors (published by the New England Historic Genealogical Society), and the Mayflower Quarterly.
Many new features are planned in Volume 60 of The Mayflower Descendant, including articles focusing on investigations into and discoveries about the lives of the Pilgrims in England and New England. Revisions and corrections to the “Five Generations Project” volumes will be regularly reported, and articles on interesting elements of Pilgrim history and genealogy will be added to the traditional content of the magazine that has long been the definitive periodical on the genealogy of Mayflower families.
Special Offer for subscribers to Volume 60 – free access to an on-line electronic version in addition to the hard copy! Subscribers who provide their e-mail addresses will be instructed how to access the electronic version.
The Mayflower Descendant was first published in 1899 under the editorship of the renowned Mayflower scholar George Ernest Bowman. Don’t miss the opportunity to be part of the next era of this great magazine!
