Here's a bit of history. It's amazing how much has changed in only 17 years. On January 24th 1994, the Today Show morning anchors Bryant Gumbel and Katie Couric broadcast a story that explains the Internet. Of course, most viewers were not familiar with the term "Internet" in 1994. That seems incredible today.
Gumbel and Couric stumbled over the identity and jargon of the iInternet technology. Gumbel wonders how to pronounce the letter "a with a ring around it." Today, we would say "at." One question asked was, "Does it require a phone line?" Finally, an off-camera crew member explained the basics and says, "it's getting bigger and bigger all the time."
To be fair, it wasn’t just Couric and Gumbel who were clueless, most of the population was too. Even those who were in the know couldn’t quite grasp how much things would change within a very few years.
What technology were YOU using in 1994?
