I want to thank the Charlotte County (Florida) Genealogical Society for inviting me to speak at their seminar today. I must say I enjoyed it. About 100 enthusiastic genealogists showed up for the one-day session. When I say "enthusiastic," I really mean it. These folks asked hard questions! I rather enjoyed that, even though I didn't always have all the answers. A couple of questions will result in future articles in this newsletter, after I do some research and find the answers. If these people asked difficult questions, I assume that others might be interested in the same topics. Therefore, future newsletter articles seem to be called for.
Of course, for anyone who lives in the northeast, simply getting out of the blizzards and going to sunny Florida added to the appeal. I was supposed to fly south on Wednesday but Mother Nature intervened with snow and ice. The local airport near my home was closed and nothing flew in or out on Wednesday. I finally flew out on Thursday and everything went smoothly after that. I did arrive in plenty of time for Saturday's seminar.
The Charlotte County Genealogical Society sponsors several seminars throughout the year in Port Charlotte. If you have an opportunity to attend any of the society's events, I am sure you will enjoy each one. Next month, the Charlotte County Genealogical Society will host presentations by John T. Humphrey speaking on Finding Your German Ancestors. John is a nationally-recognized expert on German genealogy research as well as an accomplished public speaker. I have heard John speak before at other events and I can tell you that he is good at what he does. If you have German ancestry and if you are within driving distance of Port Charlotte on March 5, 2011, you absolutely will want to attend this presentation.
Pre-registration is absolutely required! No walk-ins will be admitted. Today's event filled the room with no additional space available and I suspect next month's seminar will do the same. I'd suggest you register NOW. Details may be found at http://www.ccgsi.org/
I'll be relaxing in Florida for a couple days more and then will fly from Tampa to Salt Lake City on Tuesday to attend this week's RootsTech conference. I believe that will also be a good event and I plan to write about it by next Sunday, if not before.
Details on RootsTech may be found at http://rootstech.familysearch.org/
Details on my travel schedule may be found at http://www.eogn.com and, yes, sometimes I have to look at that page to remind myself of where I am going next!
