I had a laptop computer stolen from the locked trunk of my automobile a bit more than four years ago. I wrote about it at that time at http://goo.gl/1Xr0P. Luckily, the entire hard drive was backed up to an online Internet backup service every 15 minutes whenever the laptop was powered up. I never lost any data but did lose the laptop. If this new service from Backblaze had been available back then, I probably could have recovered the laptop.
Gleb Budman recently wrote in the Backblaze blog:
There are many causes of data loss, but a lost or stolen computer has been a guaranteed reason to need Backblaze to recover data. Unfortunately, with some exceptions, the computer itself was gone.
Today, Backblaze announces “Locate My Computer” - a new feature of the Backblaze online backup service that shows you a map of your computer’s location.

My thanks to Eileen Souza for telling me about this new service.
