The file syncing and online backup services are great for protecting your data and for automatically copying it to multiple computers, such as your desktop and laptop and (sometimes) a handheld "smartphone." I have written before about Dropbox, SugarSync, and Windows Live Mesh. You can find even more services, such as SpiderOak and Wuala.
