The newly-announced Wolfram Genealogy & History Research Assistant claims to be "the only tool that lets you discover what was going on while [your ancestors] lived. Map family relations and expand on what you already know about any of your ancestors with a simple, easy-to-use interface. It’s as if you’re traveling through time with the tips of your fingers."
I haven't had a chance to use this new application yet but the announcement looks "interesting." It apparently is not a tool to trace the individuals in your family tree. Instead, it provides information about the world in which they lived. Here are some excerpts from the announcement:
"One way you can use the Wolfram Genealogy & History Research Assistant is to track the name popularity of your family members using the app’s specialized menus.
"In addition to tracking name popularity and charting family relationships, you can also look at historical weather data to find out what the weather was like when your father was born."
The Wolfram Genealogy & History Research Assistant costs $4.99 at the iPhone App Store.
The announcement perhaps looks "interesting," but I am not sure how important it is for me to know "name popularity" or what the weather was like when my father was born. I don't think I will pay $4.99 to try it. I'll skip this one.
