The Daily Mail (a popular newspaper and web site in England) seems to believe that the rules for coats of arms are silly. It recently poked fun at the Court of the Lord Lyon, the government body in Scotland responsible for creating, monitoring, and enforcing the rules for proper coats of arms.

I doubt if this story will mean much to those of us in the Colonies. Most Americans are not even aware that there are rules for the display of coats of arms. Besides, our government doesn't have an agency to regulate the display of coats of arms in the United States. U.S. citizens are free to display whatever they wish, regardless of "the rules" elsewhere.
