The following announcement was written by GHCS Software:
GHCS Software of Rochester Hills, MI, USA, announces updates to its GedStar Pro genealogy viewer product for Android smartphones and tablets. Android app V2.1 and the accompanying Windows program V4.3 are available from the Google Android Market and from GHCS's web site at http://gedstarpro.com.
Doug Gordon of GHCS says "We believe that these latest updates show our commitment to staying current with the latest Android devices and software releases. GedStar Pro is one of the most popular Android genealogy programs, with over 20,000 downloads in its first year. We will continue to listen to our customers and provide updates that take advantage of the latest technologies."
GedStar Pro Android App 2.1
The app has been updated to make use of the latest Android features available in Android V3 (Honeycomb) and V4 (Ice Cream Sandwich). Of special note are changes to the screen layouts that will appear on larger (10.1") tablets such as the Motorola Xoom, Asus Transformer, and many others. However, the app will continue to be compatible with earlier Android devices.
The new tablet interface takes advantage of the increased screen size to display data side-by-side in a split-screen layout, making for fewer required taps and especially reducing the number of taps on the Back button.
The app will continue to be refined as experience and customer feedback dictate.
GedStar Pro Windows Program V4.3
Transferring the user's converted database files from the PCs to the Android device has been the most cumbersome part of using GedStar Pro. With this release, GedStar comes close to making this process entirely seamless by utilizing the popular cloud storage service, Dropbox.
By installing the (free) Dropbox software on both her PC and device, the user's data can be automatically transferred to the cloud immediately after a conversion and will be available for downloading on her device wirelessly, within seconds. A few taps to open Dropbox on the Android device and select the file, and it will be downloaded straight to the GedStar Pro app!
The program continues to support direct data import from The Master Genealogist (including the recent V8 release) and Legacy Family Tree, as well as from GEDCOM files.
