On January 16, I published an announcement about professional genealogist Michael Leclerc joining the team at genealogy search engine Mocavo. That article is still available at http://goo.gl/ydSqv. The company obviously is expanding still further.
The following announcement was written by Mocavo:
Ryan Hunter Appointed Chief Operating Officer, Michael Leclerc Appointed Chief Genealogist
BOULDER, Colo., Jan 25, 2012 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Mocavo, the world's largest free genealogy search engine, today announced the appointment of Ryan Hunter as COO and Michael Leclerc as Chief Genealogist. Hunter joins Mocavo after four years as a Wall Street Analyst preceded by thirteen years of operational experience in the Technology Industry. Leclerc joins Mocavo after fifteen years with the New England Historic Genealogical Society.
On Wall Street, Hunter covered software and Internet companies including Ancestry.com. At Mocavo, Hunter will drive customer growth, develop new business relationships and oversee the company's finances. "Mocavo has seen tremendous growth since our launch last spring," said Mocavo CEO, Cliff Shaw. "On Wall Street, Ryan's understanding of our industry was unparalleled amongst his peers. This critical knowledge, coupled with Ryan's extensive operational experience, prepares us for our next phase of growth."
"After four years on Wall Street as an armchair quarterback, I am excited to have the opportunity to help build another company," said Hunter. "The growth that the genealogy industry is undergoing is astonishing and I am honored to have the opportunity to help build Mocavo into a major force in the industry."
Leclerc brings more than two decades of experience in genealogy to the Mocavo team. He has authored numerous articles for genealogy magazines as well as scholarly journals. He is a popular presenter at genealogy conferences and seminars around the world. "I couldn't be happier to have Michael joining our team," said Shaw. "As Mocavo grows and innovates in the industry, Michael's incredible expertise will help us build an ever-improving experience for our users."
Leclerc said, "I am very excited to be joining the Mocavo team. I have been impressed as Cliff and his group have continually improved Mocavo during the course of the last year, and they are doing fantastic things for genealogical research. I am looking forward to being a part of the team making such a great difference for the future of family history."
Mocavo operates the world's largest free genealogy search and seeks to index and make searchable all of the world's free genealogy information. While Mocavo.com discovers new sites every day, some of the existing sites searchable on Mocavo.com include genealogy message boards, state and local historical societies, the Library of Congress, National Archives, Ellis Island, Find A Grave, the Internet Archive, various U.S. state archives, family trees, and millions of genealogy sites built by individuals.
