If you would like to join more than 100 other genealogists for dinner after the close of RootsTech, you need to sign up NOW! Ticket sales end tomorrow (Monday, January 30) at 9 AM Eastern time. The end date of Monday is required as I have to notify the hotel of the headcount. In turn, the hotel needs to order enough food no later than Monday in order to be prepared for everyone on Saturday evening.
As of the time I am writing this article on Sunday morning, 106 genealogists have signed up to attend the dinner. We may get a few more last-minute additions.
To repeat what I have written before:
I often sponsor "pick up" dinners with no set agenda after the close of major genealogy conferences. These dinners typically have no presentations, no speeches, no commercials, and little other organization. Most of the time, it is a bunch of people with similar interests going out to dinner together. The highlight of the evening is the conversations to be held over the dinner table. However, a rumor from a good source states that door prizes also will be awarded at this dinner, including at least two valuable door prizes.
This time, we will meet at the Radisson Hotel Salt Lake City Downtown between 7 and 7:30 pm on February 4, shortly after the close of the RootsTech conference. The hotel is only a few steps away from the convention center. You are invited to join us for an informal gathering before dinner when the bar opens at 7 pm. Dinner will be served at 7:30.
You absolutely must have a reservation and must print out a ticket on your own printer in order to attend. (If you don't have a printer available, let me know well in advance by email and I will print it out for you.) The advance ticket sales are required so that I can provide an exact headcount to the hotel's banquet staff several days before the dinner and they can prepare enough food. After all, it would be a disaster if they didn't prepare enough food for everyone! By use of the online ticketing system, we (the hotel and I) can be properly prepared.
106 genealogists have already made reservations and a few more reservations are trickling in daily. We have room for quite a few more. This will be the biggest EOGN Dinner ever!
The charge for dinner is $40 and payment may be made in advance with a credit card. That charge includes everything at dinner except for sodas and alcoholic beverages. Those will be available at the cash bar. Further details may be found at http://goo.gl/QCzUP.
