I have written before about Family Village, a social game tied to real-world family history that is available on Facebook. You can read my earlier articles at http://goo.gl/6FsE9 and at http://goo.gl/ODyOm. Now the producing company, called Funium LLC, has raised a $1.8 million seed round for the development of its Facebook game.
The seed investment is led by Family Odyssey, a Utah-based holding company partially owned by investor Jim Sorenson, who has a history of investing in the family history products and services. Mr. Sorenson previously co-founded GeneTree Inc., a website that uses DNA testing to test ancestry, and was an early investor in the for-profit genealogy company Ancestry.com Inc.
Funium previously secured an angel investment of $1.2 million led by Family Odyssey with participation from FamilyLink.com Inc., an online publisher of family history records founded by Ancestry.com co-founder Paul Allen.
Funium has a full-time staff of 12. Mr. Wells said the company plans to raise a Series A round within the next three to four months.
