This is an update to an article I published last year. If you are from Maine or if you spent time in the state, you will understand this. I suspect most non-Mainers will not.
Here's a bit of Americana. Well, maybe I should call it Maine-iana. When I was growing up in small town in Maine, Moxie was a very popular soft drink. It seemed to be consumed by older residents of the area. I don't remember any of my schoolyard chums every drinking the stuff. I always thought it tasted like cough syrup.
Did you ever drink Moxie?
I'll also offer the above picture of myself, taken two years ago at the Maine Genealogical Society's annual conference. I was dressed in my finest Maine attire. Yes, those are red "trap door" long johns, worn with a pair of woolen pants and braces (suspenders), but no shirt. You can click on the small image to see a larger picture. And, yes, that's a bottle of Moxie in my hand.
