The Emigrant Research Center in Växjö, Sweden, is closing forever. The information on the Center's web site simply states: "We are still receiving research assignments and answer general inquiries about emigration by e-mail or letter. Visitors to the archives and libraries (NB: No family history) are welcome by appointment."

The good years when busloads of tourists came to the House of Emigrants on Vilhelm Moberg street in Växjö are over. For more than 40 years, many people from America and elsewhere came and searched their roots. Now the Culture Park Småland AB (owned by Kronoberg County Council and the City of Växjö) has taken over all exhibition activities. House of Emigrants has become a practice room for musicians with exhibits about anything but emigration: tattoos and vampires, says Lars Hansson.
