As stated on the Synium web site, "MacFamilyTree is not just another Windows app that's been ported over to Mac OS X. Developed exclusively for Mac OS X, MacFamilyTree draws on a wide range of core technologies from Apple's latest operating systems. Many user interface elements are based on Apple's CoreAnimation technology, making sure that MacFamilyTree is a pleasure to work with on your Mac. Core Data, a modern database technology, is ready to take on even the biggest challenges - your Mac will run smoothly even when handling a 10,000 person family tree. Recent Macs running OS X 10.7 or 10.8 execute MacFamilyTree in 64-Bit mode to harness even the tiniest last bit of your Mac's computing power."
The new version also communicates nicely with certain web sites:
Use iCloud to keep your devices up to date. If enabled, MacFamilyTree 7's iCloud feature automatically synchronizes your data on your Mac and your mobile devices such as the iPhone, iPod touch or iPad.
Search and share using FamilySearch
Access the world's largest genealogy archive and its one billion entries directly from within MacFamilyTree 7. It's completely free with no additional cost or subscription fees.
Set your MacFamilyTree's data storage location to point to a Dropbox folder and sync your data this way - in case you do not want to use Apple's iCloud.
Until July 31st 2013, MacFamilyTree 7 upgrades will cost only $29.99. Please note that after July 31st 2013 no upgrades for the discounted price will be offered and the full price of $59.99 will apply.

MobileFamilyTree 7 is a fully-fledged mobile genealogy app for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. It does not require any other computer, neither Macintosh nor Windows. Instead, MobileFamilyTree 7 is a full, freestanding program for the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. That's rare in a handheld program! Most other genealogy programs written for handheld devices require a Windows or Macintosh computer for data entry and for data conversion before copying data to the handheld device. MobileFamilyTree 7 requires none of that, it is a complete program by itself although, like most other genealogy programs, it will accept data via GEDCOM import. It can also export GEDCOM files. You also can send your family tree by e-mail or synchronize your data with other iOS devices or Macs using iCloud.
MobileFamilyTree 7 is based on the same architecture as MacFamilyTree 7 and offers all charts and reports available in MacFamilyTree (the desktop/laptop version), something that I believe no other handheld genealogy program can do. (Most handhelds are a bit anemic when generating genealogy charts but MobileFamilyTree 7 offers a variety of printed charts.)
MobileFamilyTree 7 requires iOS 5 or iOS 6 and is available at the App Store. Until July 31st 2013, an upgrade to MobileFamilyTree 7 costs just $7.99. Please note that after July 31st 2013 no upgrades for the discounted price will be offered and the full price will apply.
