If the weather is good, we may move to an outdoor dining area that has a few more seats available. However, the restaurant and I won't make that commitment until Saturday morning when we can see what the weather looks like. See me at the conference on Saturday morning for details.

The dinner will be held at 7:30 PM this Saturday, August 24, shortly after the close of the annual conference of the Federation of Genealogical Societies being held in Fort Wayne, Indiana. If you are in or near Fort Wayne this weekend, you are invited to join other genealogists for dinner on Saturday evening shortly after the close of the conference. Rumor has it there will also be a few door prizes.
For this dinner, I had to resort to the restaurant selection method I used a few years ago: I was unable to find a suitable location until after I arrived in Fort Wayne. As a result, this is short notice.
Dinner will be held at the Old Gas House Restaurant at 305 E Superior Street in Fort Wayne. The restaurant has an excellent reputation and is prepared for our arrival. We will have a private dining room so that we may be rowdy without disturbing the other restaurant patrons.
The hotel is about a seven-block walk from the Grand Wayne Convention Center. That's about a half mile. I consider that to be a "healthy walk" but may be a bit too far for anyone with mobility problems. I will have an SUV and can shuttle a number of people to the restaurant and back to local hotels after the dinner. I am asking anyone else with an auto to volunteer to take a passenger or two also.

You can either go directly to the restaurant and arrive at 7:30 PM on August 24. If you would like a ride, please meet me and the other possible drivers in front of the Grand Wayne Convention Center at 7:15. Our reservation at the restaurant is for 7:30.
We will order from a menu of items selected for us. Unlike some past EOGN dinners, this week's dinner will not be buffet style. Meals available include:
An appetizer of your choice
Any one of the following:
Your choice of several excellent desserts
- Prime Rib
- A highly recommended beef filet
- Gulf shrimp
- Meatless Jambalaya for all the vegans in the group. (Well, there is at least ONE vegan in the group: me. And I got to choose the menu.)
Coffee, tea, sodas, beer, wine, or mixed drinks.
Entrées run $16 to $22 each. Add in more for appetizers, desserts, and gratuity.
The restaurant will make separate checks for each of us. You pay the food servers directly for the food and drinks that you order. There are no other fees.
The agenda is simple: there isn't one. There will be no presentations, no programs, and little of anything else in the way of organization. This is a chance to sit with friends, even new-found friends, and to relax over a meal and discuss genealogy.
If you know anyone who has ever attended a previous EOGN Dinner, ask them if they enjoyed it.
Like past EOGN dinners, reservations are required but this time you do NOT have to pay in advance. You will be charged at the end of the meal for only the food and drinks that you ordered. However, the reservation is required because I have to give the restaurant a headcount in advance so that they can make sure they have enough food for all of us! You absolutely MUST have a reservation in advance.
If you are bringing a spouse or other invited guest, make sure you make a reservation for everyone in your party. It will be embarrassing to tell your spouse that you are going out to dinner with others while your spouse is left alone in the hotel room because "you forgot!" If there are two of you, you need two reservations. Past experience has shown that these reservations fill up quickly.
