doo (always spelled with a lower-case "d") is an Android, iPhone/iPad, Macintosh OS X and Windows 8 app for organizing documents. It lets users access all their documents, wherever they keep them, and automatically generates intelligent tags to help users find any document in seconds.
doo does not alter your documents in any way nor do you need to change your filing method and locations. You simply install the program and then tell doo where to find your documents. You can keep using your existing folder structure and cloud services, while using doo.
doo will then connect to local document folders and external drives as well as cloud services like Dropbox, Google Drive, Evernote and your email accounts. You can then access, find, work with, edit and (optionally) share the documents, all from doo's control panel.
Best of all, you can find any of your files within seconds. Just start typing in the searchbar. doo will offer relevant tags as keywords for your search while you're typing. Even synonyms will be identified. Select and combine tags from the automatically generated intelligent tags to find any document in seconds.
Once installed, doo creates an index of all the file locations you specify. It then uses intelligent algorithms, OCR, and auto-tagging, to analyze every document. These tags identify relevant information and automatically create intelligent tags, such as companies, document types, people, places, file formats, sources and so forth. Even PDF documents will be tagged. doo works with documents you create, you receive in email or download from the web, as well as documents created by scanning with most any modern scanner. doo automatically applies OCR, text extraction and auto-tagging.
You can search and find all your documents within seconds from your Macintosh or Windows 8 computer as well as from an iPhone or Android device. The indexes are kept in the cloud so they are always available (only to you) wherever you are, as long as you have a wired, wireless wi-fi, or wireless 3G or 4G cell phone Internet connection. doo will also use your cell phone's camera to create a new document and store it in an appropriate place as well as OCR the document and automatically generate new tags. That document then can be quickly found and retrieved from your desktop or laptop computer, assuming the doo software is installed there also.
doo is a new program so I was not surprised to find it is a bit buggy. It crashes occasionally in my Macintosh OS X computer and in the iPhone. I also find its menus to be a bit confusing. However, even with these problems, I am keeping it for a while and plan to use it often. I suspect future software releases will eradicate most of the bugs.
doo is available free of charge. The producing company promises the present version will always be free but is planning to create a future paid version that will add unspecified "premium features."
doo works only with Android, iPhone/iPad, Macintosh OS X and Windows 8. However, a version for older versions of Windows is promised for the near future. The present iPhone version will work on an iPad but with reduced video resolution. An iPad-only version with improved images is also promised for the near future.
