McNees is the Fayette County coordinator for the www.PaGenWeb.org project, a genealogical project that is part of a national initiative to document every grave in the country. While McNees said that goal never may be achieved, he's doing his best to make sure it's done for Fayette County, Pennsylvania. To date, McNees and a team of volunteers has taken 130,000 tombstone photos, with most of the photographs taken by Fayette County native Lanny Golden.
The volunteers photograph tombstones, create driving directions to each cemetery, record GPS coordinates, then prepare Excel spreadsheets of each tombstone. All of this eventually is placed on the www.PaGenWeb.org web site.
