When in Hamburg, Germany, Jennifer was in the central library and came across a book. It was wrapped in a red cover. She was immediately drawn to it. It turned out to be a book about Jennifer's family history. It included many pictures, including pictures of her mother and of her grandfather.
The grandfather was Amon Goeth, the commandant of Płaszów concentration camp near Krakow, from 1943 to 1944. Amon Goeth ordered the execution of all non-white and bi-racial prisoners in the camp, as well as many Jews. Goeth was later tried before the Polish Supreme Court, found guilty of murder, and was executed by hanging not far from the former site of the Płaszów camp.
Amon Goeth was featured years later in the movie Schindler's List, with his role played by Ralph Fiennes. Jennifer Teege saw the movie when it played in theaters.
