A funny thing happened to me on New Year’s Day. While flying from Massachusetts to Orlando, I got a feeling in the pit of my stomach that something I ate hadn't settled very well. By the next morning, the pain had expanded and increased. By late afternoon, I could not stand up, due to the intense pain. A call to 911 followed, and I soon found myself in the emergency room of a local hospital.
A few hours later, a perforated appendix was removed from my abdomen.
I spent five days in the hospital and have been recuperating at home ever since, taking pain pills and sleeping for hours and hours. Of course, this had a predictable effect on the newsletter: nothing new was published.
Starting NOW, the newsletter is back in operation. I might not publish quite as many articles as usual in the next week or two as I take some time to get back up to speed. However, I hope to soon be back to "business as usual."
I would like to thank everyone who wrote "get well" messages. I received more than a thousand such messages plus cards and flowers. There is no way that I can send a personal reply to everyone, but I want you to know that I did read every message, and your thoughts mean a lot to me. Those messages proved the Internet is not an impersonal place. Instead, it is a meeting place of friends, even of friends we have never met.
