An article by Blake Thorne in the MLive web site reports that thousands of pages of military papers belonging to Genesee County veterans have been damaged by water, mildew and mold damage. The records -- which consist of veterans' discharge papers going back to at least the World War II era -- were damaged by moisture at the offsite storage facility where they were kept, said Genesee County Clerk John Gleason.
The records now have been boxed and are being sent to DFD Document Restoration Services, a company that specializes in recovering damaged documents.
