At its meeting in Fort Wayne, Indiana, on 20 October 2012, the American Society of Genealogists voted to give their annual Donald Lines Jacobus Award to The Descendants of Judge John Lowell of Newburyport, Massachusetts, by Scott C. Steward and Christopher C. Child.
Published by the Newbury Street Press of the New England Historic Genealogical Society in 2011, this genealogy treats some fourteen generations of Lowells, beginning with their English origins, following a line of descent from Percival1 Lowell to Judge John6 Lowell of Newburyport, and then branching out, treating descendants of John’s six children down to the present day. Generously illustrated, this book begins with short biographical accounts of some of the more renowned members of the family, of which there are many. It then presents 1089 family sketches with meticulous documentation.
My thanks to Heritage Hunters in Saratoga Springs, New York. The society invited me to make four presentations at their meeting yesterday and I must say that I enjoyed the experience. Of course, an extra highlight was that two of my ancestors fought in the Revolutionary War nearby so I stopped by to see the battlefields. It was fun, even in the heavy rain.
Heritage Hunters is a society dedicated to the study and preservation of genealogical and historic materials in and around Saratoga County, New York. Regular meetings are held on the third Saturday of each month at the Town of Saratoga's Town Hall. Meetings frequently include classes, lectures, workshops, seminars, and/or committee meetings.

I must say I had a great time on Saturday at the Bucks County Ancestry Fair, sponsored by the Genealogical Society of Pennsylvania. I gave several presentations at the event. I am told that Karen Higgins also gave a great presentation on "Beginning Genealogy" while staff members of the Doylestown, Morrisville and Philadelphia Metro Family History Centers of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints also offered a presentation about using FamilySearch online and using a local Family History Center. I admit I didn't see the other presentations as they were held at the same time that I was presenting. However, the second-hand info that I heard after the event indicated that all the attendees were quite happy with the day's presentations.
I know it must have been successful as I was exhausted. I returned to my hotel about 6 PM, thinking I would drop my things there and go out for dinner. Instead, I made the "mistake" of sitting in a comfortable chair for a minute. The next thing I knew, it was 11:30 PM! I got up and then went to bed, sleeping until 7 AM. Thirteen hours of sleep? I KNOW that I must have had a good time!

Founded in June of 1988, the Scurry County Genealogy Society of Abilene, Texas, once had 60 members. However, the group's numbers have since dwindled away, now numbering between 10 and 12 active members. The society collected reference books and published their own copies of White Buffalo Tales, the Pitners' cemetery guide and cookbooks. Most of the reference material will remain where it has always been stored: in the Scurry County Library when the group disbands. However, the society plans to donate their original research to the Scurry County Museum.
