Chicago’s Field Museum holds more than 24 million specimens and draws millions of visitors each year. The museum also has tens of thousand of photographs and many of them are now available online.
The photos include World’s Columbian Exposition of 1893, historic photos from Africa, Peru, the South Pacific, and Oregon. People, plants, and animals that lived more than a century ago are once again visible, including renowned taxidermist and sculptor Carl Akeley, and a little orphaned baboon who became a special member of an 1890′s Africa expedition.
You can find the photos in the Field Museum’s web site at http://fieldmuseum.org. A direct shortcut to the photo collection can be found at http://fieldmuseum.org/explore/department/library/photo-archives/collections.
