102-Year-Old Woman Accused of Murder, May Face Life in Prison

I often write about various “achievements” of senior citizens but this one surprised me. A 102-year-old woman who prosecutors say killed her 100-year-old roommate in a Massachusetts nursing home nearly five years ago faces a second-degree murder charge. Laura Lundquist is the oldest murder defendant in the state’s history.

How often was Ms Lundquist lucid at the time? If she can’t remember anything about it, she is not mentally competent to participate in her own defense.

In 2009 in Bloomington, MN an 82-year-old ex-wrestler named Verne Gagne with dementia body-slammed – or shoved/pushed (different versions in the news stories) – a 97 year-old man who also had dementia to the floor. The elder man broke his hip, was hospitalized, and died some 20 days later. Neither man had any memory of the incident.

The Wikipedia article indicates Gagne is now at the home of his daughter and her husband.

Verne Gagne

I can remember watching Gagne wrestle on a little TV station broadcasting from Fargo sometime in the late ’50s or early ’60s. [TV hasn’t changed much if wrestling is still being broadcast.]
