Avoid Advertising Email Messages with 10 Minute Mail

Did you ever give your email address to a web site in order to retrieve some information and then the site bombards you with advertising messages for weeks? Yes, me too. There is one rather unique tool that will reduce the filling of your in-box: 10 Minute Mail

10MinuteMail is a secure, temporary email service. This means that it lets you have a private email address that anyone can send mail to. The email message and the address both self-destruct in 10 minutes, so you don’t have to worry about SPAM or anything like that.

Many websites force you to register in order to see content. Many of those websites will then either send you SPAM for years, or even worse, sell your email address to large scale SPAM operations. 10MinuteMail allows you to easily give an email address that won’t exist in 10 minutes, so there’s no risk of SPAM. If the questionable website makes you verify the email address by sending you a link in email that you have to click on, you can read the email immediately on 10MinuteMail.com and click on the link. You can also reply to email, as some sites require a reply. You can forward the email to your personal account if there’s some information you need to save. You also can copy-and-paste the newly-received email message into a word processor or text editor or most any other program if you need to save the information.

If any web site asks for your email address before it will provide the information you seek, first open another window in your web bowser and go to http://10minutemail.com. You will immediately be given a temporary email address that looks something like this: g6709403@trbvm.com.

There is no password and, for most things, you won’t need one. However, I wouldn’t use this temporary email method for obtaining sensitive, private information, such as a bank statement or a credit card number. (Credit card numbers should never be sent through plain-text, unencrypted email anyway. There are better tools for sending credit card numbers and other sensitive information through email.) With a ten-minute lifespan, the odds of anyone intercepting your email message are slim.

You then return to the original web site and copy-and-paste your new email address into the space provided. Assuming the web site delivers your information promptly, the new email message will appear in the 10MinuteEmail.com window in your web browser. You do need to hurry, however, as the incoming message(s) will be deleted ten minutes after the temporary address was delivered to you. If the email you are waiting for still hasn’t arrived after 9 minutes or so, you can click on the link that says Give me 10 More Minutes, which will reset the countdown timer for another 10 minutes. You can reset it time and time again, if needed.

Safe, secure, and private. It’s safe from most prying eyes! I like that.

The 10 Minute Mail service is available free of charge although the site does accept donations. Your name and true email address is never given to 10 Minute Mail. It is a very private service. There is no need to pre-register or to create an account of any sort on 10 Minute Mail. Simply go to http://10minutemail.com at any time to obtain a temporary email address.

Your temporary email address is waiting for you at http://10MinuteMail.com.

offers a firefox add-in which will generate a unique masked email when you click in an “email” box in a form. From a webpage you can then read messages sent to your masked emails (and kill off any that you are sick of). (No time 10 minute time pressures – you get 4 hours!) Alternatively you can have your masked emails forwarded to a real email address (which of course stays masked from the spammers).

Now for a 10 minute IP address. I searched for and ordered a summer shirt. I continue to be plagued by ads or shirts. A 10 or even 15 minute IP address would have prevented continuing harassment by ads.
