Happy 4th of July

Have a Happy Holiday but please be safe. The following advertisement from June 25, 1911 still contains a valid warning about fireworks:

My mid-childhood reactions about the differences between Indiana and Illinois come back to me every Independence Day Weekend. I lived in Dixon, Ill for 2 years (1939-1941). In Illinois backyard fireworks were legal (and noisy), in Indiana fireworks were confined to public displays except for sparklers. In Illinois, corn was taller, and in W. Illinois very competitive with Iowa corn for height. Also no tree lines were allowed to develop along fences and corn was grown right up to the edges of property; seemed as if yards around farmhouses were much smaller with corn growing right up to them. Limited research done by an 8 year old.
