Has anyone gotten a callback? I applied in November last year, as soon as they opened up the application process. I’m available any time, a former federal employee, have a degree, etc. There are constant ads about hiring, yet here I am, hoping and waiting and wanting to get involved. Frustrating! I guess I live in an area where they really don’t need help.

In government jobs yes, when hiring for temporary help the salary might be based on several scalable factors:
1) education / skill bank / fitness for available positions (higher skilled jobs pay better)
2) payscale in your region (certain metropolitan areas have higher cost of living & wages are also higher, e.g., NYC, San Francisco, Seattle, Chicago)
Hope this clarifies a bit.
Best. 🙂

I applied back in November. I’ve called and emailed to find when they are hiring. I get the “we will call if you are needed” response. What a crock.

I had a response to register online, and then calls about two months ago, which led to a trip from Sarasota FL to Brandon FL to be fingerprinted, and fotoed.
Just last week I got a formal letter of acceptance and a date for training this Saturday nearby and then a call just now.
So, there is followup. i suggest you find your nearest census office and call and check.

When the government shut down they were not worrying about hiring other people, but their own paychecks which had stopped.

Veterans have job preference! I wasn’t told this until 4 months after I was accepted & I found out my name reached the top of the list a couple times but I continue to be bumped by vets. I worked the 2010 census as both a field manager & enumerator yet any vet will preempt me! I’m locked out in my county! Good for vets but why the secrecy ?

I read this on the site where you can apply:
“If you are a veteran who served on active duty in the U.S. armed forces and were separated under honorable conditions, you may be eligible for veterans’ preference”
Guess that’s what it means. Awesome, but frustrating.

I applied April this year, I have completed fingerprinting process, and security access registration. You have to keep checking your email.. I received a phone interview first, offering an hire, than an email behind it. I just gotten a permanent full time job and starts tomorrow, the process is long, so be looking for work, as you know dt depend on that for permanent income it is temp work. Good luck

I filled out an application last fall and have Not been contacted. I went to a local library and someone approached me about working. I called my local county as I was advised to do and still they didn’t have a clue. I worked 10 years ago in the field and wish to work 8n the Administrative Area. I feel like my service is not needed. How many applications will they be able to process if the keep advertising. Who can give you an answer?

The best way to apply for the best Census jobs is on USAjobs.gov. These are usually management positions for the Decennial operations, including Partnership, in the Regional Census Centers; or, the Regional Offices, of which there are 6 besides HQ in Suitland, MD. These jobs are usually Grade 11 or higher, and start at over $65,000 per year. The only catch is that they are term positions, and they cannot go beyond 9/30/2020.
Good luck!

I applied last October and didn’t hear anything until mid-June, when I received a call from a recruiter. The position is for a temporary enumerator (eight week position). I am not a veteran, nor have I worked for the government before. I did the fingerprinting and a couple days later received an email my training start date would be around August 9th. Then it went stone silent until this Monday, when another email came through telling me training would be this Thursday (tomorrow) in the local field office, then eight hours of training on my own at home, then another day back in the office before fieldwork begins.
Note: two others I know applied in my local area this spring, months after I did and did their fingerprinting around the same time. Both have blemishes on their backgrounds from years ago, so their clearances are taking longer. One called and was told they have 1,200 ahead of her now in our area to be contacted first.

I attended training yesterday, it lasted from 9:30am – 4:30 pm in the Philadelphia suburbs. There were about two dozen of us, everyone were from rural parts of Bucks, Montgomery and Chester Counties. We now have 15.5 hours of online training to do at home before we go back again next Thursday. Then the work starts and goes on until around October 4th, when the next phase begins.
We’re starting off as “address canvassers”, checking addresses on buildings. The work can be done between 9am-9pm, Mon-Fri. You make more $ on Sundays and after 6pm. No OT unless it’s approved first. Of course I wanted to start the online training today but received error messages stating you have to wait 24 hours… Grrr!
The next phase is when they’ll be calling more people (and I hope I stay on for), which is what my title really is… “enumerator.” It starts up in the fall.

same report as Lisa Walsh – except training was sat, and I just reached the 50% level on the training, We will not be allowed to work after dusk, assume the same for Philly, etc.

I’m about 80% done of the online training… Plan to complete it by dinnertime today, as I have to finish it by 12:00 pm tomorrow in order to attend classroom training again on Thursday. And you’re right, although technically we can work until 9:00 pm, they want you working in daylight.
If anyone’s interested, here’s a link about what we’ll be doing as of next week (address listers). The enumerators (what my title really is and what I was hired for, is the next phase starting in the fall): https://www.inquirer.com/news/2020-census-address-job-laptop-map-philadelphia-neighborhood-20190812.html?fbclid=IwAR0wPM3QynFlY8VLOEfFj_HTIB2PYmkljPxN6U77EIya0CKcGWCI44-0c94
